Cook with your hands in the food, not on a screen
miniChef reads a recipe out loud, one step at a time, and listens for you. Say “Hey miniChef, next” and it moves on. No wiping your hands to scroll.
How it works
- Open any recipe and press “Cook with me”The green button on the recipe. It works in the app and in a browser — anything with a microphone.
- It reads the first step aloudIngredients and timings first, then step one. You can keep the screen on for the whole session, or let it sleep and just listen.
- Talk to it while you cookSay “Hey miniChef” and then what you want. It answers out loud and writes the same thing on screen, so nothing is lost if a pan is louder than you are.
- Ask it things a recipe does not sayHow much is a “knob” of butter, what to use instead of buttermilk, whether the onions are supposed to be this dark yet.

A wake word has to be one fixed sound for the recogniser to listen for, so it is deliberately not translated.
What it needs, and what it does not do
- A microphone, and permission to use it. Nothing is recorded or kept — speech is turned into text and the audio is gone.
- You can turn the listening off entirely and drive it with buttons instead, if a live microphone in your kitchen is not something you want.
- It does not replace reading the recipe. Every word it says is also on the screen.
